Brother - New Years Day by UKPlaylist
'New Year's Day', by Slough-rockers Brother, is a pretty good track. That's not a very inventive review I know, but it's accurate. The band are only recently signed, and have yet to release their first album, but based on this song I'd say they've got some significant potential.
It's not ground-breaking or original, but it's quite poppy, pretty short, and pretty fun. I could see it being a fixture on trendy TV adverts or teen-shows, which bodes well for them. I'll be keeping an eye (or ear) on Brother after hearing this... 4/5

The Kills – Future Starts Now

The Kills - Future Starts Slow by FBi Radio
A tribalistic bass drum and crisp high hats introduce the listener to this well-crafted exercise in retro-fetishism. An infectious distorted guitar lick swiftly assumes its role as the focal point in the record, something it retains throughout despite the visceral appeal of the track’s “la belle et le bête” vocal harmonisation, which cross-references The Knife with sub-Bowie charismatic monotony.
Nothing much to object to here. 3.5/5

Avi Buffalo – How Come
Sub Pop
HOW COME ! by avi_buffalo
Avi Buffalo’s sun-soaked self-titled debut mused over MGMT dreams and Laurel Canyon fantasies like an adolescently charged Barney Hopkins biopic. Infected with innuendoes and chipper guitar lines, it showed an element of sophistication often alien to teens of such a tender disposition.
‘How Come’ arrives far from the album. Perhaps a stand alone single or a taste of the album to come? We don’t quite know. It’s mellowed out, however, and it sounds like Avi Zimmerman’s hoofed up a selfish line of Coltrane while lounging out through a dream-pop binge. Quite delightful, really. 3.5 /5

Justice - Civilisation

justice - civilisation by Dj Conect >
When Justice announced to their expansive online spectatorship on March 14th, their plans to put out the brand new single ‘Civilisation’ ahead of the forthcoming new LP, excitement and expectations were understandably high. France’s finest electro/rock pairing clearly weren’t afraid to test everyone’s patience. But does it live up to the hype?
Well yes and no. That track itself is strong: Great riff-heavy hooks, refined vocal tones and big busy bass lines, It all sounds very Justice - which perhaps is the problem. With little progression of style and no overly fresh ideas, it's essentially the same old formula. If this was their debut release it would easily make for a four rating, but considering their back catalogue and the time taken since their previous submissions, it’s a reluctant...3/5

You're So Cool by The History Of Apple Pie >
Summer's really rubbish this year. Making it hard for people to enjoy songs that would go perfectly with outdoor beers with loved ones.
The chilled-out tone of this track just fits in with its title wonderfully. Vocalist Stephanie Min's former classmate (who was a 'True Romance' fan – hence the name) is said to be the inspiration for this pristine piece of indie rock.
Let's all be thankful for her existence and good taste in early '90s romance films. 3/5

Coldplay - Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall by mariocon
If the title doesn't make you cringe enough already, then Coldplay's attempt to do dance just might send you over the edge. Perhaps Gwyneth's grape vine into country meant Chris was left at home fending the fruitbasket, which might explain why it sounds a bit half-arsed. Fair nuff, they've tried something different but I just wish they hadn't bothered. 2/5
