Two bands fledgling bands decide to call it quits...

January is as good a time as ever to draw things to a close, be it a smoking habit, unsatisfying relationship or band, as is the case with art rockers SCUM and Welsh indie quintet Race Horses.

Race Horses, who had only just released their first LP back in September of last year, decided to call it quits yesterday. They’ve cancelled all of their forthcoming live dates, except for one last farewell show at Cardiff’s Clwb Ifor Bach on the 9th of February.

Releasing a statement via Facebook the band had this to say:

“We are sorry to announce that we are splitting up as band. We would like to sincerely thank everyone who has supported us, come to our gigs and listened to our music. We have enjoyed the past few years and are proud of what we have done together, but it’s the end of the road for us as a band. It is clear that, creatively, we are bound for different places”.

Fair enough!

Likewise, South East art rock outfit SCUM announced that after a lengthy hiatus they would no longer be performing live or making music together. Perhaps this has something to do with singer Tom Cohen’s baby with Peaches Geldof? Probably not, but we’re not entirely above wild speculation.

Facebook seems to be the platform of choice when it comes to consolatory break-up announcements, as SCUM got the word out via a status which read:

“It seems an appropriate time to announce after a long hiatus, SCUM have collectively decided that we will no longer play or continue to write together. We’d all like to thank you for all of your support but we have chosen to part ways and work on new projects. See you all very soon.”

And there you have it, barely a fortnight in to 2013 and already two bands are down for the count.
