Bookies shout Tinie Tempah as favourite for Mercury Prize.
Ladbrokes have caused a Tinie stir in the world's Mercury buzz. The bookies declare that Tinie Tempah is heading the bets as favourite with a high 5/1, fuelled no doubt by the aftermath of bagging two BRITS last night. Tempah is currently flying closer to Mercury than fellow rapper Devlin - who is skating the earthly betting charts with an unlikely 12-1.
Ladbrokes spokesman, Alex Donohue says: "We've installed Tinie Tempah as our early favourite on the back of his impressive haul at the BRITS. The close nature of the market means we're unable to rule anyone out even with the shortlist being several months away."
There is much speculation about the neccessary qualities for an artist to be Mercury Prize-worthy; is it talent, fame or maybe just the fortune of being a wild stab in the dark? Speech Debelle's 2009 Mercury fame was sucked into a black hole whilst Jamie- from last year's winners, The XX- keeps his alive, beating out of muscial landmarks like Gill Scott Heron.
