The Spoonfed Theatre Team pick out the best plays opening in London this August.

From 5th August

Top Girls @ Trafalgar Studios
Caryl Churchill's 1982 play about a high-flying business woman who has an impromptu dinner party with a group of pioneering women from history including Pope Joan and the 9th century explorer Isabelle Bird.

From 4th August

Anna Christie @ Donmar Warehouse
Jude Law is back in town playing a less than likeable sailor in Anna Christie. Anna is a former prostitute trying to put her life back together and falling in love. Click here to read our preview.

From 11th August
Broken Glass @ Tricycle Theatre
Arthur Miller's work seems to be constantly in production, and so it should be. Broken Glass follows a German Jewish couple to America where in their relative safety they hear about Kristallnacht and try to deal with the trauma of events in Germany. It's back at the Tricycle for a month and then transfers to Vaudeville Theatre in the West End

From August 27th
The Tempest @ Royal Court Theatre
Ralph Fiennes is back in the West End as Prospero in The Tempest. In the skilled hands of Trevor Nunn, this production promises lots of magic and machismo. In honour of his return, we decided to chart Fiennes best film roles in pictures.

From 1st September
Decade @ Commodity Quay
Rupert Goold directs a production that looks at the legacy of September 11th. The boundary pushing Headlong Theatre in association with Chichester Festival Theatre will be using a transformed a dis-used office building to bring crowds from the banks of the Thames into Manhattan.
