SMASH GOOD!

Has it been us, or has this year been all about fey indie pop bands so far?  As much as we like the sound of skinny kids from New York and Manchester whining about their lost loves or whatever, there has been a large metal-shaped hole in our lives for a while now. Therefore, it’s come as some relief to find out that New Orleans-based sludge-core merchants Crowbar have announced a show at the Underworld in January.

Now, be warned this is not music for the faint-hearted, but Crowbar’s unique blend of extremely slow, low key hardcore and brooding song structures have seen them become one  of the more successful beat-down acts of the last 20 years. Forming in 1989, they’ve toured with Pantera, recorded with Phil Anselmo and have enjoyed the support of MTV’s Headbangers Ball for quite a few years now. Their stage antics have also become hardcore lore, as your local EyehateGod T-shirt wearing maniac will readily tell you.

If this doesn’t really sound like your cup of tea, then we also received news that ‘80s new-wavers Blancmange have announced a bunch of UK dates for March next year, including one at Camden’s KOKO on the 31st. Just don’t try slam dancing at that one, OK?

If you’re on O2 you can get Priority Tickets to see Blancmange and Crowbar in London next year. Tickets on sale now. Terms apply.
