December: London Theatre

by: Spoonfed Team

The Spoonfed Theatre Team pick out the biggest plays opening in London this December.

Get Santa

From 1st December
Get Santa! @ Royal Court
This tops our Christmas list. Of all the shows we want to see, this is the one with the most the most heart. It's the Royal Courts first Christmas play and looks like damn good family entertainment by a Anthony Neilson, a writer we imagine to have been a particularly rebellious child.

From 4th December
A Flea in her Ear @ Old Vic Theatre
By Georges Feydeu, the French master of vaudevillian farces, expect mistaken identities, mishaps and much mayhem. Starring the fantastic Tom Hollander, the story follows Victor Chandebise's wife, who suspects her husband is having an affair and concocts a scheme of entrapment.

From 5th December
Trilby @ Finborough Theatre
Christmas calls for a big Victorian melodrama and our favourite fringe theatre has happily obliged. In the Latin quarter of Paris, three young artists obsess over the stunning muse Trilby O'Ferrall who though beautiful can't sing a note. Evil Svengali also falls for her beauty and believes his hypnotic powers can turn her into an opera singer.

From 11th December
Madam Butterfly @ King's Head Theatre
This just looks fab. Risky but fab. Transported to modern day Bangkok, Puccini's opera follows young geisha in love with a callous American Lieutenant.

From 8th December
The Animals and Children took to the Streets @ BAC
A woman and her daughter arrive in a particularly dank part of town. Swarming with wolves, spies and peeping -toms, inner city paranoia threatens to take hold. Expect film animation and some impressive storytelling.
