The news we've all been waiting for!

Fantasia

Oh man, we pretty much couldn't be more excited about this. The one and only Fantasia – without question the greatest Disney film of all time (it sure knocks spots off Peter Pan 2) – is being given a special screening at the Royal Albert Hall, with live accompaniment from the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

The evening – a UK première – is to take place on 21st October 2012, and features selections from the original 1940 Walt Disney version as well as from the surprisingly good Fantasia 2000 follow-up. We've got our fingers crossed for that bit with the mushrooms dancing, and Night on Bare Mountain obviously. Golly we're breathless already.

So, by the sounds of it, is Jasper Hope, the Royal Albert Hall's Chief Operating Officer: “We are delighted to present the UK premiere of these live orchestral performances of Disney’s Fantasia at the Royal Albert Hall, the world’s most famous stage. Over 70 years since its original release, Disney’s stunning visuals and Stokowski’s timeless soundtrack continue to be treasured by audiences of all ages. These high-definition screenings, accompanied by the live performance of some of the most memorable classical music ever composed, will bring this unforgettable experience to an entirely new generation.”
