Penelope @ Hampstead Theatre
A totally bizarre, absolutely absorbing farce inspired by Homer's Odyssey. At the bottom of a drained swimming pool, four suitors try and win the heart of Penelope who listens in to their conversations from her elevated position. Expect a lot of comedy and rich language from Druid, a great Irish theatre company.
From 11th February
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee @ Donmar Warehouse
Points for unnecessarily long title go to this dose of light-hearted, high-drama, musical comedy that is sure to be the injection of fun theatre in February needs. It's not common for the Donmar to put on something so funny and full of songs and this Tony-Award winning show will hopefully draw a whole new crowd into this great theatre.
From 11th February
Our Private Life @ Royal Court Theatre
As part of Royal Court Theatre's International Playwright's Season, Pedro Miguel Rozo's story of a village full of rumours looks like a certain sell-out show this season. Our Private Life was developed during Rozo's residency at Royal Court in 2009 and follows the happenings of a small Columbian community when lies are spread about a respectable family and long-buried secrets emerge.
From 22nd February
Tom's @ Blue Elephant Theatre
There seems to be a lot of dark depressing theatre in London. Shouldn't we be trying to cheer ourselves up and pretend we really will get a spring this year? Blue Elephant Theatre seem to be doing just that with Tom's by Sketty Productions. Based on the true story of Tom Nabarro and his wife Ellen, as they focus on the good things in life after a tragedy.
