July: Best Film Events in London

July: Best Film Events in London

Naima Khan selects the five best film events taking place across London this July.

3rd – 8th July
East End Film Festival
This might sound niche, but it's a big'un. It's not quite Tribeca but given the calibre of guests and the quality of films, it's on its way there. East End Film Festival promises contemporary British, European and World Cinema and boy do they deliver. We recommend 1/2 Revolution by Omar Shargawi, Karim El Hakim.

4th July
Secret Screenings
Aaah! I know the secret and it's a good'un. Troxy are screening a secret film and then hosting a secret event and both are worth seeing. Believe me.

7th July
Cycle in Cinema – Troll Hunter
Troll Hunter is Norwegian, it's dark, it's funny and you never know whether to take it seriously or not. The politics are scarier than the trolls (see above), a troupe of goat-munching Christian-hating baddies being pursued by a troll hunter and the group of students filming him.

11th – 20th July
Rushes Soho Shorts
Say it quick and say it pretty. Rushes Soho Short Film Festival presents both commercially produced and independent work with equal focus and appreciation. That means that there are big names next to lesser known ones and they're all worth seeing. Variety, people.

27th July
Comic Book All-Nighter
Don't look at me like you don't still have superman pyjamas at your mum's place. You're not required to wear them at Prince Charles Cinema's Comic Book All Nighter, they're just playing a series of flawed but fantastic films All. Night. Long.
