July: London Theatre

by: Spoonfed Team

The Spoonfed Theatre Team pick out the biggest plays opening in London this July.

From 11th July
Lay Me Down Softly @ Tricycle Theatre
Written and directed by Billy Roche, this run of one of his small-town Irish tales hinges on the complex and absorbing character of Deano, a boxer in a '60s travelling carnival. When Deano is challenged by a professional, his anxieties rise to the surface.

From 14th July
Loyalty @ Hampstead Theatre
Maxine freakin' Peake! She's at her best when she's playing strong, ever so slightly vulnerable women and in Loyalty she plays the wife of a high-ranking politician. Their arguments about weapons of mass destruction have a habit of cropping up in the most inappropriate places.

From 19th July
Wunderkammer by Circa @ The Barbican
Reports from Australia tell us Circa have done it again. A circus troupe that either makes a statement or opens up their audience to a world of fantastic obscurities will return to The Barbican for a short run of superb theatre.

From 26th July
Betwixt @ Trafalgar Studios
Now a West End musical comedy, Betwixt premièred at Kings Head Theatre a few years ago and this updated version with new songs promises more of the same magic and peculiarities.

From 28th July
Gershwin's Crazy For You @ Open Air Theatre
Outdoor musical theatre in July! Crazy For You features a heap of brilliant songs that all fit around the story of Bobby and his struggle make it big as a stage dancer coupled with a boy-meets-girl type affair.

July: London Clubbing

July: London Live Music
