LIVE! London suffers Volcanic Ash Disruption

LIVE! London suffers Volcanic Ash Disruption

Keep up to date with who's still playing and who's not playing here...

As you probably saw on the news over the last week, a huge volcano has erupted in Iceland that has effectively poured water on the free party that was commericial air travel. Whilst stranding holiday-makers in Spain (major bummer!), it has also left a whole range of bands and artists stuck on the continent or trapped in London with nothing to do.

We'll update this page when we hear anything, and let you know what is still happening, who is cancelling London gigs and who is adding extra dates.

Updates:

Crystal Castles -
Have had to cancel tomorrow night's show at Heaven, and are looking to recschedule the date.

Chain and the Gang : will be performing at Cargo tonight, although The Sticks are stuck in Europe thanks to the dust.

Besnard Lakes
: Sonic Cathedral report that French dream-pop collective Double U have been forced to pull out of tomorrow night.

Some good news though - Yacht has been added to the bill of tomorrow night's White Heat , although K-X-P won't be performing.

Ronnie Scott
's reports that while US trumpeter Wallace Roney won't be appearing this Monday and Tuesday at the clud, they've roped in two-time Grammy Award winner Dee Dee Bridgewater to take his place.

Good news! Crystal Castles have rescheduled their date at heaven to the 19th of May.

The Features have been forced to postpone thier gig at the Garage tonight.

Unsurpisingly Icelandic label The Bedroom Community's show at the Barbican on the 20th of April is being rescheduled.

Adding to the misery, Karen Elson gig at the Slaughtered Lamb has also been ashed.

Although LCD Soundsytem's Dublin Gigs on the 20th and 21st look like they will be cancelled there is no news as of yet about the London Gigs on the 23rd and 24th. Fingers crossed they'll still be going ahead then.

Bummer - Aussie rockers Powderfinger have pulled out of their London date.

Oh crumbs - now Ether festival has been effected - Gil Scott Heron will be postponing his appearance at the Royal Festival Hall according to XL Records.

New York Dolls are so frickin' rock n roll, they've beaten the ash and are poised to play KOKO tonight.

Some good news about LCD Soundsystem's London dates. Drowned in Sound are saying that the band will be flying over to Spain and driving to the UK to make the dates. Now that's what we call dedication.

There's also optomism that Efterklang and Sunny Day Real Estate will be making their shows this week - despite the massive drives involved. It seems that whilst the rest of  Europe's holiday-makers seem to be waiting for the navy, American bands are shrugging and hiring vans.

Last little bit of news before we power-down our computers and head off to the bright-lights of Shoreditch for the night. As mentioned below Sorcha from Serious has been in touch to tell us that Iranian pop legend Ebi's show at the Royal Albert Hall is definitely happening. She even sent us this video.

Also we hear it's all good for Bear in Heaven's show at the Lexington tomorrow night. Pretty ace- we're sort of looking forward to that one!

It's not really music releated - but Fulham will be also be playing Hamburg on Thursday night.

We'll let you know tomorrow morning if there is any other cancellations due to the hideous backlogue that has built up over the weekend , but it's looking like UK airspace will start to re-open from 7am tomorrow and by the afternoon the whole thing will have started to blow over - quite literally!

Has anyone else been strangely reminded of Swine flu by this whole thing?

Tuesday

OK, we're back. According to this morning's Guardian, that unprounacable Icelandic volcano has only gone and barfed more ash into the sky, so we're bracing ourselves with tea and wheetabix for more cancellations. Nice one Iceland.

By the way if you are a promoter who has been affected by all this please leave us a comment. Hopefully it won't be too bad today.

OK, first bit of good news is that the Strange Boys show at the ICA tomorrow is definitely going ahead, allowing us sigh a huge sigh of relief over the fact that none of this week's Editor's Choice have been disrupted.

Argggh! Nas and Damian Marley's show at the Electric Ballroom tonight has been cancelled due to volcanic ash.

More stuff in after lunch, and more bad news, Status Quo have made it out of London. Miley Cyrus also can't make her film premiere - bummer.

On a slightly more positive note, Carl at the Social has asked bands trapped in London to email Carl@thesocial.com if they fancy a last minute show.  Hopefully the  Depreciation Guild have made it through the mess and are still playing...

Thursday

More news I'm afraid. Those hoping to see Leon Somov at Cargo this Saturday will be disappointed, unfortunately he's had to cancel.
