London Big Freeze

When you were sunning yourself at the plethora of great London Festivals this year, did you find yourself thinking 'man, if only there was some snow here'? Well some crazy cats down at Free Sports on 4 did, and the outcome is the London Freeze: one hectic weekend of frost covered musical mayhem. Confirmed acts already include Orbital, Calvin Harris and Pendulum.

This one of a kind event is the ultimate merging of extreme sports and live music, and combines all your favourite winter activities with a multitude of musical talents over a three day period. From 30th October to 1st November, The Battersea Power Station transforms its vast interiors into a winter wonderland cum festival, and opens its doors to a chaotic weekend of snowboarding, skiing, and freestyle jumping to tickle your thrill seeking fancy. If ever a festival was set to get your heart racing and your feet tapping, it's this adrenaline fuelled fest of fun.

For those of you who house a few reservations about strapping two boards to your feet and launching yourself off into oblivion, there are also spectator's events where you can watch the fun from afar, and limit those inevitable bruised behinds. There are also a wide array of themed bars, for those of you who fancy engaging in a little après ski, or just need to soothe away the aches and pains of the day.

Listen to us prattle on about all this great stuff; we haven’t even mentioned the superb line up of live acts already confirmed to take to the stage.  Setting the precedent for the headlining acts is Orbital, who are ending Friday night's showcase with an all out electronica rave. Touted as one of the most influential acts in the history of dance music, these boys are renowned for their lively theatrical performances, and are sure to get the Festival off to a fantastic start.

Following in the eclectic ethos, The London Freeze are merging all kinds of musical genres together, proving that there really is something for everyone. Heading the talent on Saturday night are American rock legends the Eagles of Death Metal, who combine a love for classic rock with a tongue-in-cheek irreverence for the 'rock star' lifestyle, and they are sure to get the crowd riled up after an action packed day on the slopes.

Finally, to round off the weekend nicely, as if your ears hadn’t been treated enough, those generous fellas down at the Freeze have only gone and got Mercury Prize nominated Friendly Fires to play for you! The post-hardcore outfit will be playing their tropical electronic pop till the sun goes down; their lush shoegaze melodies are sure to send the festival out with a bang.

With more bands confirmed every day, this is set to be one exciting weekend of winter fun!
