London comedy is home to the greatest in British comedy talent; with a legacy for heavy use of irony and funny walks, comedy in London remains at the cutting edge by attracting the greatest British comedians from all over the UK.

Expect to see old hands like Paul Merton and Stewart Lee performing alongside new talent like Jack Whitehall and Andrew Lawrence. Although you may have to buy long in advance to see popular comics like Dylan Moran, Jimmy Carr and Bill Bailey, there's great comedy available in London every night of the week at short notice.

99 club
The 99 Comedy Club is a critics favourite with consistently good line ups. Currently spread over half a dozen locations including Storm in Leicester Square, visitors are always offered a mixed bag of laughter which continues to receive applauds from London comedy fans.

The Comedy Store
Every comedian worth his salt has performed at The Comedy Store and countless others have failed in their quest for glory. This is the place that defined the alternative comedy movement of the 1980s and it is still a vibrant and relevant venue where the very best stand ups in London will vie for your attention.

Hen and Chickens Theatre
As home to many a lively young comedian and a favourite Edinburgh Fringe preview venue, the Hen and Chickens Theatre in Islington provides much more than cheap laughs. This cultured pub is also a venue where amusing sketches and comedy plays from new writers are shown.

The Funny Side
The Funny Side comedy club in Covent Garden's Corner Store offers the highest quality UK comedians with contributions from an array of international talent. Their shows are usually tucked away by 10pm so you can rest assured that none of the acts will drag on.

Comedy Cafe
Shoreditch's Comedy Cafe is London's biggest purpose built laughter venue, which features a host of new acts and top comedians. All customers are required to dine, but with free entry on Wednesday and professional comedy on Thursday nights, the top notch grub will offer a welcome break between fits of giggles.
