Dance classes have never been as popular as they are right now and with the success of shows like Strictly Come Dancing on the telly or Dirty Dancing on the stage, many Londoners are flocking to all varieties of dancing classes to learn how to strut their stuff on the dance floor. London dance fans are spoilt for choice as dance lessons across the city are being offered in anything from traditional ballroom classes to pole dancing.

If you like urban music then sign up for Beginner’s Hip Hop at Funk Physics Studios in Tottenham; the lessons give a complete introduction to street dance, touching on everything from Breakdance to Locking and Popping.

Learning a dance from a different culture is an undoubtedly educational experience but you don’t have to journey halfway round the world to do so. The Beginner Egyptian Dance Class for Women will give you and your wobbly bits a great confidence boost, this belly dancing class will leave you feeling happier and healthier in only a few classes. Peckham based Bollywood Kick is another great example of the health benefits to taking a dance class, and their part aerobics, part dance routines are set to the sound of Bollywood movies and Indian folk music.

Dance classes are great activities for a date so to ignite some passion with your new beau try the Negracha Tango Club on the Strand; with four rooms of different classes every Friday you’re guaranteed to find something to tickle your fancy. Ealing based MamboCity is another Latin favourite, its dance classes run until 1am and with a late licensed bar the resident DJs always have dancers whipped up into a frenzy. There are some even more risqué options for daring girls who like to flaunt what they’ve got. Popular poledance night Pole Taster offers pole dancing and other alternative fitness classes.

Dancing need not be restricted to only a few people though and Licence to Ceilidh certainly proves that. Based upon Scotland’s traditional country dancing, the Scottish Ceilidh Club is taking London by storm. You’re advised to book early as this has become a very popular night out.
