About London For London
We’re living in swine flu central, the city seems to have been permanently engulfed in a rain cloud and the credit crunch shows no immediate signs of becoming less crunchy. With so much doom and gloom, there really is only one thing Londoners can do: throw the most massive party the city has ever seen filled with drinks, food, fun and London gigs. Better yet, a party supporting charities working to provide significant solutions to some of the capital’s most pressing problems. And London For London has stepped up to organise the event.
London For London is a campaign that invites Londoners to contribute to a better and happier London. The event aims to engage the whole of London for just one night and get Londoners out of their homes, enjoying the fantastic things to do around them and thinking about some of the city’s more serious issues. On Saturday 3rd October 2009 London For London is asking London’s bars, clubs and pubs to invite every person who walks through their door that night to donate just £1 towards London For London. The money will go towards three fantastic local charities, Kids Company, Volunteer Police Cadets and 95.8 Capital FM’s Help a Child in London.
The London For London founders, Ryan Kohn and Laura Fraser, hope to raise at least £1,500,000 from the over 750,000 people that go out in Greater London on a Saturday night as well as from bars, clubs and pubs that choose to match the final donated amount at their venue.
London for London has already signed up some of the biggest names in the city to take part, including the London Paper, ITV and venues such as Ministry of Sound and Cargo but needs Londoners to jump on board as well. Save the date: 3 October will be a night to remember - when all London comes together and harnesses our hellraising spirit to do some good. There's no fundraiser like a fun fundraiser!
About The Charities
Kids Company
Kids Company was founded by Camila Batmanghelidjh in 1996 when she saw the need for a solid support network for London children and young people who have fallen through the cracks. They operate two centres in South London and have outreach services in 33 schools. In 2007 Kids Company was awarded the Liberty and Justice Human Rights Award.
Volunteer Police Cadets
The Volunteer Police Cadets is a division of the Met Police that engages young people throughout London. Not only is the VPC program a wonderful opportunity for youth to build a wide array of life skills but it also gets teens involved in their local community. All VPC participants are encouraged and give the support needed to use their new skills in further education or employment.
Help a London Child
95.8 Capital FM’s Help a London Child offers more than 10,000 grants directly to groups and charities working with young people in the Capital. With a contribution of over £20,000,000 since it was founded in 1975, Help a London Child has supported children with disabilities or special needs, the homeless and those seeking refuge and a variety of projects to provide sports, music, drama and leisure activities for kids.
