London has a legendary reputation for live music and some of the greatest bands in the world have started their careers with London gigs. Over the years The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Arctic Monkeys and Coldplay all found their fame by performing live concerts in London and our city is also home to fantastic new music that is waiting to be discovered.

From rock to jazz there is a venue to suit every pocket and satisfy even the most discerning music fan. Here are Spoonfed’s top picks of London’s best live music venues:

Koko
Where: Camden
Best for: The finest established acts, latest chart toppers and some cracking club nights.

100 Club

Where: Oxford Street
Best for: discovering the best new bands and secret gigs from big name artists eager to revel in this venue’s punk legacy.

Old Blue Last
Where: Shoreditch
Best for: hanging out with the trendy kids. As this bar is owned by Vice magazine it is always packing in fashionable crowds, expect to hear the latest musical trends and new bands before they hit the big time.

Ronnie Scott’s
Where: Soho
Best for: a special night out; booking is essential and this is not a cheap venue but it is the most distinguished jazz club in London and has an international reputation for the best live jazz.

The Windmill
Where: Brixton
Best for: a relaxed vibe with an excellent reputation for consistently good music. If you stop by on a Sundays in the summer they cook up a great BBQ too.

Madame Jojo’s
Where: Soho
Best for: something a little bit different. Usually this venue is home to burlesque and drag queens but their live music is always crowd pleasing.

The Forum
Where: Kentish Town
Best for: an intimate setting in a medium sized venue which still regularly draws in big name bands.
