The Spoonfed Arts Team pick out the biggest exhibitions opening in London this March.

From 3rd March
Laurie Anderson, Trisha Brown, Gordon Matta-Clark @ The Barbican
In what is potentially one of the art higlights of the year, the Barbican presents an exploration of three key players on the art scene of 1970s New York. Musician Laurie Anderson, choreographer Trisha Brown and artist Gordon Matta-Clark helped shape the way New York was (and to some extent, still is) viewed as a hotbed fo experimentalism and avant-garde creativity.
From 3rd March
Afghanistan @ The British Museum
Over 200 amazing artefacts from the National Museum of Afghansitan on display this spring and summer at the British Museum. The exhibition charts the oft-overlooked cultural significance of the now war-blighted country of Afghanistan.
From 3rd March
Marcus Coates @ The Serpentine
Ever since we interviewed him ahead of 2009's collaborative performance with Chrome Hoof (in which he wore a silver suit and a real horse's head) we've been rather keen on zany contemporary artist Marcus Coates. So it's good to see that a film of his is currently on show at the Serpentine – a film that involves Coates documenting a trip to the Amazon on behalf of a St John's Hospice outpatient.
From 4th March
Pino Pascali @ Camden Arts Centre
A first major solo show for twentieth century Italian artist Pino Pascali at Camden Arts Centre this spring. Best known as one of the key exponents of Arte Povera – the movement which championed the use of everyday materials – Pascali created a host of weirdly intriguing sculptural and installation-based works.
From 24th March
Dirt @ Wellcome Collection
2011 sees the wonderful Wellcome Collection getting all mucky, with a major exhibition exploring the history, cultural significance and scientific importance of, as the title suggests, dirt. With art alongside documentary photography, scientific artefacts and all manner of other bits and bobs, Dirt continues Wellcome's line of challenging but accessible exhibitions.
