March: London Theatre

by: Spoonfed Team

The Spoonfed Team select the top five plays taking place in London throughout March 2011.

From 10th March
The Knot of the Heart @ Almeida Theatre
When you're battling drug addiction, you don't expect the support of your family to come at a price but such is life for Lucy. Pretty and privileged, her social drug habit turns into hard addiction. Yes, another play about the failing middle classes, but we rather love them.

From 17th March

Cause Celebre @ The Old Vic
Fiona from Shameless people! Like former cast mate Maxine Peake, Anne Marie-Duff is phenomenal and needs to be seen on stage. In Cause Celebre Duff plays Alma Rattenbury, on trial with her 18-year-old lover for her husband's murder.

From 19th March

Betty Blue Eyes @ Novello Theatre
In an age of austerity, the nation prepare for a royal wedding. It's 1947 and a pig is being reared illegally so the gentry can feast on the occasion of the marriage of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Phillip. Go see this for the puppet alone.

From 21st March
Anna Karenina @ Arcola Theatre
An interesting new adaptation of Tolstoy's really really long novel Anna Karenina. In this version by Helen Edmundson, we can look forward to a physical production and a cool exploration of love.

From 29th March

Bed and Sofa @ Finborough Theatre
We can't tell you how much we're looking forward to this one. Not least because silent films are brilliant. Inspired by the 1926 film by Abram Room, Bed and Sofa is a musical about a cramped couple who welcome a third person into their tiny home and their relationship. A musical based on a silent film? So they tell us.
