As much as it would be the greatest marketing coup of all time,
Michael Jackson has not been cryogenically frozen to be resurrected in
due time. Nope, the Gloved One is certifiably dead, with an official
exhibition commemorating his life to be launched at London’s O2 Arena
on October 28. Had he lived, Jacko - who died of cardiac arrest in
June – would have played a 50-date ‘This Is It’ residency at the same
venue.
The collection of over 250 artefacts will trace MJ’s meteoric career,
from his beginnings at Jackson 5 to his success as a solo artist.
Presumably, the exhibition will leave out the bits about alleged child
molesting and baby dangling. But it will include never-before-seen
items such as awards and custom-made clothing items sourced from
Jackson’s private archives, Neverland Ranch and video vault. Themed
galleries will highlight different aspects of his life, including
Motown, Solo Career, Dancing, Costumes and more.
Jackson’s family gave the go-ahead for the exhibition after lengthy
negotiations with promoter AEG Live, say reports. The collection will
debut in London and then travel the world, before settling permanently
in a museum at a yet-undecided location.
