A Michael Jackson tribute concert is to be held in Vienna on 26th September, it was announced last month. Yesterday the king of pop’s brother, Jermaine Jackson, held a press conference in London and confirmed that the line-up will include Chris Brown, Mary J Blige, Akon and Sister Sledge.
The performers will sing tracks from the vast back catalogue of the controversial star, who died of a suspected homicidal overdose in June. A tearful Jermaine revealed that he plans to sing a virtual duet with his late sibling at the concert.
Since the conference, however, there has been some confusion as to the reliability of the line-up confirmation, as a representative of Blige claimed the star would be unable to attend due a prior engagement, and Brown’s spokesman is rumoured to have denied the singer’s participation.
Organisers of 'The Tribute: In Memory of Michael Jackson' have come under fire for trying to involve Brown, who is currently serving 80s community service for assaulting his ex-girlfriend, singer Rihanna, in February. But yesterday Jackson challenged critics by drawing attention to Brown's talent, and plea for forgiveness. 'People make mistakes…and during these times, people need our support', he said.
The Tribute will take place at the former imperial Schoenbrunn Palace, a venue chosen because, as Jackson explained, 'Michael loved castles'.
