X Factor head honcho Simon Cowell has reportedly lined-up Coldplay's Chris Martin to perform on next weekend's live final, due to be held on December 13 at the Fountain Studios in Wembley, North London.

The singer would be the third high profile star to be confirmed for the event, following reports that former Wham! star George Michael and Beatles legend Paul McCartney will also be performing, possibly as a duet.

Daily Mirror sources state that Cowell is said to be keen to attract the hottest talents in the world of music to appear as live performers on the show: 'After last year's duets with Beyoncé, Boyzone and Westlife he knew he had to pull out all the stops to make this year's even better'.

However, Martin's potential appearance would be something of a surprise, considering he seemed to mock the X Factor at a recent gig in Manchester:

The X Factor final marks the culmination of the much publicised singing competition which has been the focus of derision from some quarters but has again gripped large sections of the nation in 2009.

Last weekend's show saw the contestants whittled down to a final three: bubbly east Londoner Stacey Solomon, cheeky Essex chappy Olly Murs, and housewives' choice Joe McElderry, who has been installed as the bookies' favourite.

Tickets for the London dates of next year's X Factor Live 2010 at Wembley Arena and the O2 Arena are on sale now.
