Telly comic Harry Hill gets arty farty.

It's always refreshing when you can laugh out loud at a work of art. Soho's Gallery Maison Bertaux has just launched a brilliant new exhibition – a collection of paintings straight from the warped mind of TV's Harry Hill. When he's not satirising television shows or wearing shirts with mahoosive collars, Hill likes to spend his time painting art works that are just as offbeat and referential as his comedy.
Hill first started painting as a hobby in the '90s, after his girlfriend gave him a set of oil paints. Most of them tend to be quite small as he tends to paint on offcuts of wood in front of the TV. Indeed, his humourous and often macabre pictures, offer a clear insight into the mind of someone who's spent the last 15 years of his life watching television.
Chock full of D.I.Y symbolism, visual puns and kooky combinations, his paintings look like bizarre and alternative versions of our own media-saturated, celebrity-obsessed world, with Bruce Forsyth, Philip Schofield and Vanessa Feltz taking centre stage.
‘My Hobby’ – a selection of Hill’s most intriguing works will be on display until March 28th at the Gallery Maison Bertaux in Soho, Monday – Saturday 9.30am – 10.00pm and Sunday 9.30am – 8.00pm. Admission is free.
