Phew! That was a close call. But thankfully your favourite Journey power ballad  Don’t Stop Believing looks to avoided Cowell’s butchers knife, as the X Factor has decided to plump for the much safer but no less smaltzier song 'The Climb', which was originally performed by grotsky teen sensation Miley Cyrus.

On reflection, it's probably no surprise that Cowell swerved Journey’s epic cocaine fest. First the rumours caused utter outrage, like this Facebook Group, and after the close shave he had with Nick Drake and Leonard Cohen last year, he probably wouldn’t want to hack off all those music nerds again. Also the fact that a certain someone has 4 date arena run at the O2 may have had more than a little something to do with it.

All four remaining contestants have been reported to have practiced the song, and it’s not the greatest surprise to hear that Olly Murs and Danyl Johnson have struggled with the track, with one insider telling The Sun: 'It's a very girly song so Olly and Danyl weren’t that great at it'.

Fantastic. That tenner I had on Olly is looking really safe now….
