Robbie Williams and Pet Shop Boys to challenge X Factor Winner for Christmas Number 1 Spot

Robbie Williams and Pet Shop Boys to challenge X Factor Winner for Christmas Number 1 Spot

In a bid to end The X Factor’s monopoly over the Christmas number 1 spot, Robbie Williams and Pet Shop Boys are both set to release singles in the run-up to Xmas.

News has reached Spoonfed that Pet Shop Boys have been hard at work in the studio putting the finishing touches to a single that includes all the hallmarks of a Christmas classic, with the obligatory bells and a message of seasonal goodwill.

Rumour has it that they have even called in Dame Shirley Bassey to collaborate on the project. The pop legends are also scheduled to play two nights at the o2 Arena in Greenwich the week before, where the songs may get their live debut.

Meanwhile, Robbie Williams, on the back of his recent return to the pop arena, will be donning his gloves to keep both PSB and the next X Factor winner off the top spot. He is set to release the track ‘You Know Me’, from his new album ‘Reality Killed The Video Star', on 14 December, getting a week's head start on the next ready-made pop star.

At the moment, the bookies Paddypower.com are offering odds of 1/10  that the victor of this year's class of hopefuls will go on to take the coveted prize, with odds of 5/1 on any other single, even thought the actual song has not been announced yet.

It is clear then that both Robbie and Pet Shop Boys will have their work cut out if they are to succeed.  One thing we can be sure of, however; it's doubtful to be all peace and goodwill between the acts as the battle heats up.
