Summer of World Cup Football Love

Summer of World Cup Football Love

Don't want to cheer in a corner during this summer of international football love? Find a pub where you can show your true colours.

It's coming home. It's coming home. Football's coming home. Yes, it's World Cup year, which can only mean one thing: Football. Although actually it means many things – injuries, tantrums, tenuously relevant adverts and 'official' partnerships and products (anyone seen Tesco's World Cup sandwiches? Weird). But it also actually means football. And as much as watching football at home is fairly nice, nothing beats the feeling of watching the beautiful game in a pub with a crowd of similarly-minded folk. The solidarity! The camaraderie!

This summer, everyone will be getting into the World Cup spirit but just because this is London, that doesn't necessarily mean everyone is supoprting England. Got another team's colours on your mind this summer? Here's where we recommend you watch the World Cup in London depending on which team you support:

England
The Hare, Mare Street

Obviously almost any pub in London would do, but the Hare is one of the greatest pubs in the capital. Although it's situated just opposite Vyner Street you'll find no trendy pretensions here. Just England flags, intimidating but actually very friendly locals, well-priced (and well-kept) Landlord and charming barmaid Sandra.

Italy
New Evaristo Club

This used to be something of a hidden gem until every media outlet in the world started bigging them up to sound cool. It's still wicked though – hidden away underground through some random door on Greek Street. They've got Italian flags, photos of Mafia types and a big telly. You could even get dinner down the road in the appalling but utterly loveable Trattoria d'Aldo.

Brazi

Guanabara

Guanabara proves that there’s more to Brazil than great music, wicked parties and sexy ladies wearing little more than they were born in. Or does it? Not really, but that’s not exactly a bad thing, is it? It’s a great club with drinks like drops of sunshine and staff who’ll have you in the palm of their hands in seconds.

America
The Baring

Serving a range of light and hearty meals, day and night, The Baring is now the new Friday 'Girls of Spoonfed' lunch out spot, of whom no less than two are fully paid up members of the good old US of A. It also has a cool games room upstairs, and does an excellent line in burgers. Yee hah!

Germany
Bavarian Beer Hall

We can't actually remember if there's even a telly in here, but it's so authentically Germanic that after a few foaming tankards served by Teutonically buxom frauleins you'll be unlikely to care all that much. Zer gut yah!

France
Le Bar de Magis

Ah oui monsieur, Le Bar de Magis c'est le bar le plus Français à Londres. Apparently they even speak French. Zut Alors! Situated in Battersea and attached to a rather lovely French restaurant, this is the place for moules, frites et le jeu beau.

Argentina
The Bedford

Yeah Balham can be a bit of a trek, but it's actually rather pleasant when you get there. And if you already live there, then it's probably quite convenient. The Bedford hosts regular Argentine Tango nights, so they'll probably welcome some of the nation's football fans as well. It'd only be fair, right?

Spain
Bradley's Spanish Bar

One of the most brilliant little bars in London, and hidden away just off Oxford Street. It doesn't have a TV either but the sign is in Spanish colours, they've got loads of Spanish beers and after an evening spent here you really won't care what the score is.
