by: Spoonfed Team

Arr, Me Hearties! It's International Talk Like a Pirate Day on Saturday September 19! This year the event has been expanded to a three day nautical extravaganza, the London Pirate Festival, which launches today.

From September 17-19 London's West End and South Bank will be overrun by sailors and scallywags with activities such as nautical cabaret, burlesque, comedy, a pirate boat party on the Thames and a even a Caribbean rum tasting! Wannabe pirates can get dressed up to hop aboard the Golden Hinde at Pickford's Wharf for a treasure hunt and a peek at the Captain's cabin. You'll also have an opportunity to join in with some playful skirmishes between rival crews and a secret end of festival party.

London Pirate Festival

The London Pirate Festival is organised by pirate enthusiast Tom Scott (Mad Cap'n Tom to his naval chums) whose sailor alter-ego was voted as President of the University of York in 2008. Mad Cap'n Tom expects full participation so brush up on your shanties and follow his advice on how to speak like Pirate.

For full details of what events are on offer during the festival check out the Facebook group for the latest information and find out how to change your language to Pirate too!
