A galaxy of celebrities are descending on the Grosvenor House Hotel in London this weekend for the Variety Club’s 57th Annual Showbiz Awards 2009. Confirmed guests include The Saturdays, Alesha Dixon, Jon Culshaw, Ben Kingsley, Daniela Lavender, Nick  Knowles, Zoe Salmon, Rupert Grint, Joe Calzaghe,  Jonathan Ansell, Dame Kelly Holmes, Antony Cotton, John Stapleton, Lynn Faulds Wood, Michelle Collins, Nick Knowles, Tiana Benjamin and Donal MacIntyre.

The Saturdays

The Saturdays

Broadcast live on FIVE, the awards ceremony celebrates the showbiz world and helps raise awareness of the Variety Club's tireless work providing transport and facilities for the sick, disabled and disadvantaged children. Stars honoured in the past include everyone from Vera Lynn to Katherine Jenkins via The Beatles, Clapton, Michael Caine, Judi Dench, Keira Knighley, Jude Law and even Al Pacino.

Basically it's an excuse for the stars to get together and feel good about themselves, while genuinely doing something good. For us mortals its either a star-studded clip show to warm us up for Strictly and X Factor, or a chance for some autographs if you want to brave the freezing temperatures and hit the red carpet. Or, a guaranteed chance to bump funnies with celebrities at Mahikis if you're part of the afterparty jetset. Nice.
