Cool Hand Luke posts closing notices for 19th November.
You've got to feel for the cast and crew of Cool Hand Luke who thought they'd be working on it until 7th January, only to learn recently that the last performance will come to a close on 19th November. But since they were prepared to face the challenges of working on a production of Cool Hand Luke, we're betting they had back-up plans in place.
At the mercy of Novel Theatre company duo, playwright Emma Reeves and director Andrew Loudon, the people behind notoriously bad adaptations of Carrie's War, Anne of Green Gables and (unforgivably) Little Women, Cool Hand Luke faced the additional challenge of that hyped egg munching scene. A scene, it turns out they pulled off brilliantly.
Sadly, the rest of the play turned out to be what our reviewer called “a sequence of events excised from a far richer source, that never feel truly embraced by the stage”. Shame that.
