The stage adaptation of the Green Day album American Idiot comes to London's Hammersmith Apollo.

Do you have the time to listen to Green Day whine? Well, for approximately two and a half hours you can enjoy the theatrical version of their album American Idiot from a comfy seat at Hammersmith Apollo while watching 'three boyhood friends searching for meaning  in a post 9/11 world'.

Their Broadway musical transfers to the London venue from 4th-9th December next year after dates in Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Dublin, Cardiff, Glasgow and Southampton.

Back in April, theatre critic Mark Shenton noted the tipping point when musicals strayed from their familiar nostalgic format to a more pop informed one and he counted American Idiot among the many productions that signalled its arrival. He said “the triumph of the show is to take Green Day’s celebrated album and fiercely and thrillingly translate it to stage life” but also noted that closing after a year could be because musicals are “too expensive for the younger audience demographic that would want to see a Green Day musical.” The UK tour means that the production isn't looking for longevity in the West End like a lot of transfers and it's few dates in Hammersmith are likely to be a hit.

Tickets go on sale on Friday 9th December.
