Mackintosh announces Hair will close in September.

The West End production of Hair at Gielgud Theatre will end its run early on September 4th after a five month run.
Hair's arrival in the West End marked the first time an entire Broadway cast has been transferred from Broadway to London. Despite opening to positve reviews in the West End, when the American company complete their London engagement, the show will not recast with British replacements.
The decision to end the show in London has been made eight weeks into its run which was initially planned to continue until January 8th 2011. Billed as the American Tribal Love-Rock Musical, the show was originally produced in the 1960's. It follows the story of a group of politically active, shaggy-haired optimists living in New York City as they try to balance their loves, relationships and politics with societal conventions and the expectations of conservative parents.
