Helen Mirren will play Queen Elizabeth II in Stephen Daldry's production of The Audience at Garrick Theatre in 2013

Helen Mirren is set to play Queen Elizabeth II in the Stephen Daldry directed West End play, The Audience

Written by the brilliant Peter Morgan, who wrote the film The Queen - which also starred Mirren as QEII - The Last King of Scotland and Frost Nixon, The Audience looks at the private meetings between the Queen and the 12 prime ministers who have had the incredibly formal, much hushed discussions with her about you know, running the country and stuff.

It follows the Queen from her days as a young mother when she had audiences with Churchill up until her chats with Cameron in her most recent years and begins previews on 15th February 2013 at Garrick Theatre.
