Bend It Like Beckham the musical is offically on its way.

Bend It Like Beckham, the cliché drenched, hugely enjoyable football movie that unapologetically launched the career of Keira Knightley is to be made into a West End musical. In the hands of Sonia Friedman, the producer behind the box office juggernaut that is Legally Blonde, the Bend It Like Beckham musical is set to hit Broadway shortly after its West End run.

Director of the film which also starred Parminder Nagra, Gurinder Chadha has confirmed the script has been finalised but the composer of the score is yet to be decided.

Knightley's spokesman has confirmed that there will be no misplaced pouts in the West End for quite some time as Knightley will not reprise her role of short-haired-rumoured-lesbian for the musical version. Nor will she be appearing in My Fair Lady, for which she took singing lessons, as the role went to her Never Let Me Go co-star Carey Mulligan.
