Naima Khan looks forward to The Wonderful World of Hugh Hughes at The Barbican in September

Hugh Hughes at The Barbican

This September Hugh Hughes presents three of his best shows at The Barbican. Here's why you should go see 'em:

1. Floating
Floating is Hughes' labour of love. It's a fantastically bizarre recount of April Fools' Day 1982 when the Menai Bridge collapsed and the island of Anglesey off the coast of Wales found itself on a world tour. Hughes worked on this for 13 years and turned it into an exploration of identity that questions the places we come from and how they shape us.

2. Story of a Rabbit

Here's what Hughes once said of his show Story of a Rabbit which pretty much sums up while you'll be biting your knuckles to stop yourself laughing and crying: “I’m comparing and contrasting the death of my father, with the death of my neighbour’s rabbit.”

3. 360

Hugh seeks a 360 degree outlook on life. He wants to find as an adult the new perspectives that children seem to come across so easily. His mission sends him home to Wales, to reconnect with childhood friend Gareth as they climb Snowdon. Expect love, humanity and the things we only talk about with our very best friends.

4.Hugh Hughes!
Hugh hughes is so damn good they named him twice. He tends to stand to the side of harsh observational comedy and instead allows his warm persona to propel his shows. But like the best of 'em he's more than a tad self-deprecating, enjoys reviewing his own performances and like so many of us is his own harshest critic. And he doesn't wait 'til after the show to criticise.

5. You really can have it all
Hugh is performing his masterpieces at The Barbican from 11th September until 2nd October. You can enjoy them separately or back-to-back on Saturdays.
