One of our favourite theatre companies Butterfly Wheels tells us about where they're hanging out erm.. working these days.
Tell us about your rehearsal space. How did you end up rehearsing there?
We're rehearsing our show, 'The Nutcracker', at Pentameters Theatre, Hampstead. It's ideal for us because it is the space where we are actually putting on the show. As a company, we love the theatre as it has an intimacy and charm that we haven’t seen in any other theatre. Pentameters have supported us from the beginning of Butterfly Wheels and we've already put on several shows within the space over the last two years and they’ve gone really well.
Who else rehearses there?
Most shows that are put on at Pentameters Theatre will spend a period of time rehearsing there, more so than most other theatres. With most theatres you generally have to start rehearsing elsewhere and then move into the venue later on, but as Pentameters is a small theatre that puts on quite long runs, you can rehearse during the day whilst other shows are happening in the evenings.
What's the best thing about it?
Being a very art based company, it's important that we are inspired by our chosen venue. Pentameters gives us the creative freedom to transform the usually more traditional space into an intrinsically designed installation. Where other theatres can limit the production, Pentameters allow us to do whatever we want with the space. Paint it, make holes in the set, whatever will be best for the show!
The Nutcracker at Pentameters Theatre runs from December 11th 2010 until 6th January 2011.
