Former Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller and Mamma Mia producer Judy Craymer have both confirmed that a West End musical featuring hits from the '90s girl band will be coming to London.
Dates for the commencement of the run are yet to be announced but all five singers, Emma Bunton, Geri Haliwell, Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm and Victoria Beckham are on board with the project, entitled Viva Forever. After acheiving commercial success with Spice World The Movie in 1997, grossing over $75 million worldwide, the musical will undoubtedly follow suit.
Judy Craymer hopes to achieve the same success she did with Mamma Mia by creating a storyline around which to set the Spice Girls most successful hits. Craymer's biggest musical to date, Mamma Mia, premièred in the West End in 1999 and has since been seen by over 30 million people in 160 cities and grossed $2billion at the box office. On her take on Viva Forever she said “I want to create a unique celebration of the band and its music, with its own flavour and joyful message. It is important to me that the excitement, style and humour of the Spice Girls is well represented on stage".
The Spice Girls have had an undeniable influence on contemporary pop music, they continue to inspire musicians and retain a loyal fan base. The musical is sure to be a sell out and will feature hits such as 'Wannabe', '2 Become 1 'Viva Forever', and 'Goodbye'.
