Stephen Fry will play Malvolio opposite Mark Rylance in Twelfth Night at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre.

Stephen Fry is to return to the stage to play the fittingly complex Malvolio in Shakespeare's Twelfth Night at The Globe from 22nd September 2012. In Shakespeare's tale of romance and mistaken identities Fry will star opposite Mark Rylance playing Olivia, Samuel Barnett playing Sebastian and Johnny Flynn as Viola.

A stiff and proper servant, Malvolio has some lofty aims with his sights set on marrying Olivia and becoming Count Malvolio.

Fry famously walked out of the last play he was in, Cell Mates by Simon Gray, during its run in the West End in 1995. He later explained he left because of mental health issues he had at the time.

In the 17 years since his last theatre performance, Fry has played God in a new take on the nativity, as part of a one-off charity event at Almeida Theatre. He has also lent his voice to the narration of Howl's Moving Castle at Southwark Playhouse.
