The King's Speech post early closing notices.

By the same writer behind the 2011 Oscar-winning film The King's Speech, the stage show of the same name - which has been running at Wyndhams Theatre in the West End since 22nd March - has posted early closing notices.
After much discussion about the distinct lack of excitement around the play, which has not faired nearly as well as other West End shows that also have cinematic coutnerparts like War Horse, The King's Speech will close on 11th May.
The play's producers have lamented not putting the show on earlier before “the film came along and blocked its path” - one clear difference between The King's Speech and the likes of Mamma Mia and Chicago which both had film adaptations released after the opening of the stage shows. This was pointed out in Mark Lawson's recent article in the Guardian on the low ticket sales for The King's Speech, in which he also mentioned that musicals fair better than straight plays after a cinematic release.
The play's producers have said “we believed that enough time had passed between the film and our opening. This clearly was not the case. We are extremely proud of what we have accomplished."
