The Literary Ball at Royal Court Theatre is the first of its kind and we're pretty excited about it.

The Literary Ball at Royal Court Theatre, recommended event.

We're very impressed with whoever came up with this idea. Royal Court Theatre have gathered together five British writers and got them to work with five French ones to create a story with music that we can dance and drink to until the wee hours. The writers who have gamely accepted their mission include Mark Ravenhill, Penelope Skinner, Marion Aubert, Alexi Kaye Campbell and Nathalie Fillion, amongst others.

They'll work on this all day for two days and present their masterpiece on Friday 2nd July at Jerwood Theatre Upstairs. Expect familiar songs, and something upbeat to bop along to.

Of the writers included, Mark Ravenhill you'll know from his now infamous Shopping and Fucking as well as his recent work with Bette Bourne on the striking A Life in Three Acts at Soho Theatre. Alexi Kaye Campbell has once or twice been the toast of theatreland especially when he had The Pride running at Royal Court and Apologia on at Bush Theatre and after he won the Critic’s Circle Prize for Most Promising Playwright for the former. Penelope Skinner is the writer of the 2009 Ediburgh Fringe find Fucked which split the critics to say the least. We're also really looking forward to seeing what Nina Raine will bring to the table since she seems to have been a little quiet since she made her name among the young hot theatre bods in 2006.

The Literary Ball runs at Royal Court Theatre on 2nd July.
