Susan Boyle and Kevin Spacey feature in Emma Berge's round up of this weeks theatre news stories.

Sell a Door's Spring Awakening has announced its tour dates for next year. Londoners will be able to catch it from 7th-24th June at the Greenwich Theatre. Based on the (once banned) play by Frank Wedekind, Spring Awakening did well on Broadway winning seven Tony Awards including Best Musical, but failed to take off properly in England after it transferred from the Lyric Hammersmith to the Novello Theatre, where it ran for just six weeks. Despite a good critical reception, it didn't pull in the audiences. Among the cast for the West End run was Iwan Rheon as Moritz, a role which won him the Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actor – Rheon is now commonly known as Simon from E4's Misfits.

And speaking of award winning screen actors, Kevin Spacey is set to do a run as Richard III. The Shakespeare play will be the final play of the Bridge Project, which is a transatlantic collaboration between the Old Vic, where the show will be playing and where Spacey is artistic director, BAM and Sam Mendes's company, Neal Street. Sam Mendes will be directing the production.

And, oh dear, it sounds as though Susan Boyle may make an appearance in a musical about her life. Susan Boyle, the Scottish singer who came to fame after audition for Britain's Got Talent became a massive YouTube hit, says she'd rather be in it than watch it and wants to do the singing parts. In further news, she's also been nominated for a Grammy for her album 'I Dreamed A Dream'. Sheesh.

If the slew of stuff in the West End isn't quite your bag and you've spent the year at some fringe gems, the upcoming Offie Awards will be worth your while. Read more about The Off West End theatre accolades for the best theatre venues, productions actors here.
