The Hot August Fringe festival of cabaret, comedy, music and performance is underway. Here are our top 5 shows to see over the coming weeks.

Hot August Fringe is back at Royal Vauxhall Tavern and Battersea Barge for another year of experimental cabaret, comedy, spoken word, music and dance. It's fuelled by talented creatives and opinionated debaters and they've come up with one hectic schedule. So to help you navigate your way through the dozens of shows, we've selected our Top 5:
From 29th July
Eaten Mess
Ballsy theatre company Getinthebackofthevan are not as aggressive as they sound. Their show Eaten Mess is a six-minute politically themed live art performance featuring Clegg and Cameron and meringue.
From 15th August
Polyester Fiesta
It's not just crap architecture we can blame on the '70s, that decade is responsible for polyester too. In Lorraine Bowen's comedy cabaret she looks at new inventions and the way they fit into our lives. Expect a lot of clothes, a lot of colour and a catwalk.
From 18th August
Artwank
Everything has a history, including porn. In Artwank, Ophelia Bitz looks back at the vintage days of recorded nakedness, including the sultry French films and football-themed gay porn of the '70s. It's a funny, sexy, ever so slightly educational lecture full of music, performance and films.
From 22nd August
Grindhouse
Inspired by early silent cinema and Hitchcock, [RE:ArtzZZ] have created two performances. Love, obsession and a mamma's boy are at the centre of Dial M whilst Asta Neilsen is Dead [a silent movie] looks at the lengths performers will go to for the sake of their audience.
From 22nd August
Out of the Gardens
Sing and dance-along entertainment comes courtesy of FarRemoved, a company who delve into the lives of Big Edie and Little Edie Bouvier Beale, the aunt and cousin of Jackie Kennedy Onassis and stars of the 1975 documentary Grey Gardens. The documentary follows their lives in a decaying East Hampton mansion. FarRemoved have brought comedy, poetry, song and dance to the lives of two isolated women.
