Theatregoers votes at the Whatsonstage.com Awards hint at a future for musical theatre reality TV.

Jude Law, Rachel Weisz, Patrick Stewart, Rowan Atikinson and Patina Miller were amongst the winners of last night's tenth annual Whatsonstage.com Awards. The only major theatre accolade voted for by theatregoers was hosted by 'King of the Jungle' Christopher Biggins and Mel 'Mel & Sue' Giedroyc replacing expected host Sheridan Smith who pulled out due to her demanding Legally Blonde schedule.

Notable wins included Wicked for Best West End Show and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert for Best New Musical. Rachel Weisz won Best Actress for her performance in A Streetcar Named Desire at Donmar Warehouse and Jude Law won Best Actor for his turn as Hamlet (also a Donmar Warehouse production). Miriam Margoyles deservedly won Best Supporting Actress for her role as Nell in Endgame at The Duchess

A record breaking 46,000 theatregoers raised their voices in support of their favourite shows, actors and production teams in the tenth annual 'theatregoers choice'.  Entertainment at the Awards Concert was provided by Jodie Prenger who sang from Oliver and won Best Actress in a Musical for her part as Nancy. Continuing the success of reality TV stars, Diana Vickers beat out Lenny Henry to win London Newcomer of the Year for her par in The Rise & Fall of Little Voice.

The Whatsonstage.com awards began ten years ago after users voted for their preferred winners of the prestigious Laurence Olivier Awards and the results showed a marked difference to the decisions of the Olivier judges. The Olivier awards are announced on March 21st.
