Whoopi Goldberg to play Mother Superior in Sister Act at London Palladium

Oscar winning actress Whoopi Goldberg, star of the original Sister Act films will make her West End debut at the London Palladium this August.

Here come the puns: Whoopi! She's back in the habit, she just can't kick the habit, nun other will do, whatever, suffice to say the legendary Whoopi Goldberg who played the lead Deloris Van Cartier in the 1992 smash hit film and its sequel is coming to London to star in the Olivier award nominated show alongside Patina Miller.

Miller, who all critics agree is fantastic as Deloris will continue to play the lead on stage and Goldberg will take up the role of Mother Superior while its current holder Sheila Hancock does something to do with the latest BBC/Andrew Lloyd Webber reality TV collaboration Over The Rainbow.

Goldberg will take on 23 performances between 10th August and 31st August after which the show will move over to make room for the results of Over The Rainbow. Whilst we generally salute wedging celebrities into light-hearted west end fun, stern Mother Superior is an unexpected role for the vivacious comedienne but she's Whoopi Goldberg so who cares?
