Queen of Harts, Miranda picks up three awards at the 2010 British Comedy Awards.

Miranda Hart

Comedian Miranda Hart cleaned up at the 21st annual British Comedy Awards, picking up three awards for her starring role in the BBC Two sitcom, Miranda.

The popular television show was awarded Best New British Comedy, while the talented performer won Best New Comedy Actress, as well as the public-voted People's Choice Award.

The award ceremony held at the O2 Arena on Saturday evening was aired live on Channel 4, following 20 years of being broadcast by ITV. Despite much hype and high ratings (averaging 2.53m viewers), not all home viewers were pleased with the ceremony. Tweets from comedy fans throughout the evening featured comments such as:

#cragdoo: "Irony: The British Comedy Awards not being funny!"

#naomisayers: "Can't sleep... Partly out of depression at how unfunny the British comedy awards are. All those comedians in the room and not funny."

Others were disappointed by lack of presence of two of the biggest stars. Michael McIntyre and Russell Brand both accepted their awards from afar - McIntyre was in Liverpool filming the new series of Britain's Got Talent, while Brand pulled out of the ceremony at short notice to support an ill friend.

Other winners of 2010 British Comedy Awards include:
