A new topical comedy show will be screened on Channel 4, it has been revealed. The TV channel has announced that The Late List is being scheduled for an 11pm slot and will be broadcast each night, with the episodes filmed just a few hours in advance to ensure they are as timely as possible.

According to producers, The Late List “will bring you everything you need to know about 'today' whether it's news, entertainment, sport or anything else that may prove a springboard to great comic material”. Channel 4 have said that the entertainment show will be presented by “a mix of established and new talent”, although they are yet to reveal what guests are lined up to appear. The show is being made by Princess Productions who are behind popular shows such as The Sunday Night Project and The Wright Stuff.

The new format will not be the channel's first late-night topical comedy show - in 2008 Jason Manford and Andi Osho hosted Tonightly, which was cancelled after being panned by critics. They made a second attempt in 2009 with The TNT Show, hosted by Jack Whitehall and Holly Walsh, but that also received poor ratings. However, the channel has recently enjoyed success with Stand Up For The Week, which has now been commissioned for a second series.

The Late List will start on Monday 6th September.
