20 years of laughter...

Dave's Leicester Comedy Festival turns 20 next year and has announced a jam-packed programme to celebrate the milestone. Lasting for 17 days from 8th-24th of February, the festival will hold a whopping 517 shows across 50 venues.
Highlights will include performances from comic luminaries such as Alan Davies, Russell Kane, Milton Jones, Doc Brown, Al Murray and the legendary Jimmy Cricket. As well as featuring stand-up sets from comedians old and new, there will be a whole host of special comedy gigs held throughout the festival.
Valentine's Day will see the launch the first session Comedy Blind Date, a new addition to the programming during which three male comedians will compete for the heart of one lucky lady from the audience. There will be also be an exhibition of comedy portraits by photographer Andy Hollingworth and an industry panel discussion on the last 20 years of live British comedy chaired by Nica Burns, producer of the Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards.
Jonny Vegas (Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year 1997) and cast mates from award-winning BBC 3 sitcom Ideal will host an Ideal Night Out, picking out their favourite moments from series seven and dubbing over a chosen episode live.
Making a welcome return from last year will be the Silver Stand Up of the Year competition, an unconventional search for budding and established comedians aged over 50, plus popular festival favourites like Hotel D'Comedie, The Secret Tour and Comedy In The Dark.
And of course the festivities would not be complete without the prestigious Leicester Mecury Comedian of the Year competition which will allow one lucky young comic to follow in the footsteps of last year's winner Matt Rees.
Closing over a fortnight of great comedy and events will be the Gala Charity Finale at Curve Theatre, where all some of the best comedians and acts from across the festival will perform, with proceeds going to Amnesty and Prostaid.
