British comics compete to raise bread (and money) for Comic Relief...

If you thought you'd seen the last of The Great British Bake Off for a while, think again! As part of this year’s Comic Relief, the culinary competition will return to screens in the form of The Great Comic Relief Bake Off airing on BBC2.

A charity version of this summer’s ratings smash will feature 16 celebrity contestants, many of whom are better known for their comedy chops than their prowess in the kitchen, as they tackle Signature Bakes, Technical Bakes and Show Stopper Bakes.

In each instalment of the mini-series, four contestants will compete against one another, the winners of each going head to head in the fifth and final episode to determine the overall winner.

The first heat of the Great Comic Relief Bake Off will feature stand-up comedians Jo Brand, Steven K Amos and comedy double act Ingrid Oliver and Lorna Watson.

Taking part in heat two is Life’s Too Short star Warwick Davis as well as Dragon's Den's Duncan Bannatyne and TV presenters Andy Akinwolere and Simon Reeve.

Paralympics gold medallist Ellie Simmonds will be joined by Countryfile’s Julia Bradbury, Newsnight's Kirsty Wark and comedian Bob Mortimer.

Lastly, Comedian Ed Byrne, Olympian Helen Glover and journalist Martha Kearney will be in heat four.

Each of the challenges will be devised by celebrity chefs Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood with all the proceeds of the competition going to Comic Relief. The inaugural episode of the contest will air on BBC2 on January 21st and is set to run till through to January 24th.
