London's Best Sketch Comedy Nights

London's Best Sketch Comedy Nights

by: Spoonfedcomedy

Sick of telling stand-ups what you do for a living? Never fear, Spoonfed's guide to London's best sketch and character nights is here.

There's been a discernable rise in good sketch and character nights in the capital of late and while they might not as commonplace as stand-up gigs, there's still plenty of funny theatrical goings-on to choose from. Brimming with diversity, imagination and good old-fashioned horseplay, look no further than these ace monthly clubs for the perfect night's entertainment.

Sketchercise @ Ginglik, W12
Last Wednesday of the month
Hosted by discerning comics Allnutt and Simpson, Sketchercise is a monthly club that's exclusively for sketch and character acts. The duo always line up the best emerging and established talent on the circuit, with a hefty mix of diverse acts on the bill. It's held in Ginglik, a quirky London venue on Shepherd's Bush Green that used to be a public toilet (don't let that put you off).

One-Eyed Men's Land of the Blind @ Cavendish Arms, SW8
2nd Wednesday of the month
This sketch, character and musical comedy night has recruited some awesome acts of late from innovative character comic Holly Burn to the delightfully absurd  Doctor Brown. What's more...it's completely free. Presented by The One-Eyed Men (formerly Politically Erect), it takes place in the lovely Cavendish Arms ballroom space in Stockwell.

Colin Hoult: The New Adventures @ Leicester Square Theatre, WC2
3rd Thursday of the month
Pant-wettingly funny character comedian and adventurer Colin Hoult is hosting a regular night of brand new comedy and music at the LST this spring, with a sci-fi twist. Featuring different special guests each month.

Roffle Club @
Leicester Square Theatre, WC2
1st Sunday of the month
The Roffle Club is presided over by versatile double act Max and Iván who play host to a crop of exciting comedy talent in the intimate LST basement. Most of London's top sketch, character and music acts tend to pop in to this monthly gig, from Canal Café Theatre regulars The Three Englishmen, to cabaret superstars Frisky and Mannish and character specialist Colin Hoult.

Totally Tom and Friends
@ Deansways, E2

1st Wednesday of the month
Sketch duo Totally Tom - Edinburgh 'Best Newcomer' nominees 2011 and producers of the brilliant YouTube hit 'Renaissance Man' - have moved their monthly residency to Deansways. They are continuing to produce some excellent gigs there, featuring mixed bills of quality sketch, character and stand-up comics. February's launch night, featuring Simon Amstell, was a sell-out success.
