Marcel Lucont's Gallic Symbol is voted best show out of 100 at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Marcel Lucont has been announced winner of the 2012 Amused Moose Comedy Awards, for his show Gallic Symbol, beating over 100 other Fringe productions to the title. Lucont (a French 'raconteur' played by comedian Alexis Dubus) wins £5000 for the development of his comedy career, a commercial standard DVD recording of his show and a moose trophy.

In typical nonchalent style, Lucont refused the opportunity to comment on his win, responding only with a shrug.

The competition, established last year, aims to find the best comedy show without a commercial DVD deal. Votes were received from an industry panel who had watched around 100 shows.

For the first time ever this year, there was a tie for first place in the Amused Moose Laugh Off competition for newcomers, with Funbi and Richard Todd being named breakthrough acts of the year, sharing the £1500 prize fund.

All winners will feature in the Amused Moose Comedy Awards Showcases at London's Soho Theatre in September.
