John van der Put has won a competition to perform the 'World's Shortest Gig' at the Amnesty International fundraiser.

Comedy magician John van der Put, AKA Piff the Magic Dragon, has won a competition to perform a 15 second set at the Secret Policeman's Ball in New York.

Having won the most votes in a poll on the Secret Policeman's Ball Facebook page, van der Put is to be flown to New York to appear in front of a 6,000 strong crowd in what has been dubbed 'The World's Shortest Gig'.

The deadpan dragon was one of five up-and-coming comics to be shortlisted by a panel of judges including journalist Caitlin Moran, Inbetweeners' star Simon Bird and Daily Show writer David ‘DJ’ Javerbaum. He then won his place at the ball ahead of Martin Crozer, Haiste & Lawrence, Christian Talbot and Chris Turner after his 15 second clip (above) was voted the best by Facebook fans.

Piff said: "I’m very glad to win the 15 seconds at the Secret Policeman’s Ball. Dragons love New York, although New Yorker’s seem to have a bad opinion of dragons ever since that whole Godzilla episode in 1998. Plus, it’ll be nice to be by the sea again. I used to live there, but I moved due to lack of work."

He joins a host of comedy stars performing at the Amnesty International fundraiser on 4th March, including Russell Brand, Noel Fielding, Sarah Silverman, Jon Stewart, Kristen Wiig and Jack Whitehall.

It will be broadcast on Channel 4 on Friday March 9th.
