Musical based on Roald Dahl's classic will hit the West End this autumn.
Good news for bookworms and musical comedy fans - The Royal Shakespeare Company’s musical production of Roald Dahl’s Matilda, with music and lyrics composed by Tim Minchin, is set to hit the West End later this year.
Exact dates, venue, and casting details are yet to be confirmed, but we can tell you that the show will have an ‘open-ended run’ beginning in autumn, with bookings opening in May.
Matilda received rave reviews when it opened in Stratford-Upon-Avon over Christmas, subsequently picking up the Critics’ Circle Theatre Award for Best Musical in January.
Playwright Dennis Kelly adapted the story from Dahl’s classic children’s novel, which focuses on clever young girl who is ignored by her family and tortured by her headteacher, before developing super powers and teaching the grown-ups a lesson.
Australian comedy maestro Minchin made his own mark on the production with an impressive musical score and his signature wordy lyrics.
In the video below, Minchin discusses how he became involved in the production.
